Artist Statement

Whether the subject of my painting is a person who has made an indelible mark on history, a fisherman, an elephant, or a goldfish, all have a spirit that shines through and makes one unique.  What I strive for most in my portraits is to capture that spirit as well as a strong desire to tell a story.  My paintings reflect the journey that one has been on since birth. To view one of my pieces you should see the road map of one’s life. The message here is to embrace the dents and dings; lines and wrinkles.  All these little marks are etchings of the experiences that make us human.

I work almost entirely with oils on canvas, love to use bold colors, and seek to make my paintings multi-dimensional through the use of color, tone, contrast, and light. My paintings drift between Naturalism and Realism and are organic in nature.
